Hon. Paul Otis Dentu, MCE Shama District. 2025 in Review: Steering Shama’s Development Agenda

The year 2025 marked a defining chapter in the leadership of Hon. Paul Otis Dentu, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Shama, as he laid a firm foundation for inclusive development, economic revitalisation and collaborative governance within the municipality.
Assumption of Office and Leadership Direction

Hon. Dentu was confirmed in 2025 following the nationwide MMDCE approval process, earning overwhelming confidence from Assembly Members. His confirmation signalled the start of a leadership tenure anchored in accountability, partnership and accelerated local development.
One of the most notable initiatives under his leadership was the designation of the Shama Junction Market as a pilot hub for the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy. The initiative seeks to modernise market infrastructure, improve security, and expand trading hours to stimulate commerce, create jobs and boost internally generated revenue.
Complementing this effort,

Hon. Dentu embarked on strategic engagement tours with major companies and industrial players operating within the municipality. These engagements focused on strengthening public-private partnerships, addressing operational challenges such as sanitation and infrastructure, and aligning corporate social responsibility efforts with municipal development priorities.
Private Sector and Industrial Collaboration
In line with his pro-business agenda, Hon. Dentu also engaged stakeholders from business associations, including the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), to explore investment opportunities, promote local content participation, and foster employment creation for the youth of Shama.
Agricultural Transformation Drive
Recognising agriculture as a critical pillar of the local economy, the MCE led strategic visits to agribusinesses and farms across the municipality. These visits aimed at unlocking opportunities in crop production, livestock, aquaculture and agro-processing, while positioning Shama as a viable hub for agricultural investment and value addition.
Education featured prominently in Hon. Dentu’s 2025 agenda. The Shama Municipal Assembly prioritised the use of District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) allocations for the construction of new classrooms and the completion of stalled school projects. These interventions were targeted at reducing overcrowding, improving teaching and learning conditions, and expanding access to quality basic education.
Youth Advocacy and Scholarship Support
Hon. Dentu also championed youth empowerment, particularly in education. At scholarship award ceremonies supported by corporate partners such as WAPCo, he encouraged beneficiaries to pursue not only academic excellence but also discipline, skills development and community service as tools for nation-building.
Collaborative Governance and Stakeholder Engagement
Throughout the year, the MCE consistently emphasised inclusive governance, working closely with traditional authorities, religious leaders, civil society organisations and community groups. His approach underscored the belief that sustainable development is best achieved through shared responsibility and collective action.
Looking Ahead
Hon. Paul Otis Dentu’s 2025 performance as Shama MCE reflects a leadership style focused on economic growth, infrastructure development, youth empowerment and strong stakeholder collaboration. As the municipality moves forward, these foundations are expected to drive sustained progress and improve the quality of life for residents.
